Origami Sunflower Step by Step
Step 1:
Select a yellow (or any other color of your choice) colored craft paper for the origami petals, brown for the center and green craft paper for the stem-leaves.
Let’s start with the petals. You will need a total of 7 square papers of 3 x 3 inches for the petals.
Step 2:
Take any one of the yellow square papers and fold it in half, diagonally, on both sides. Unfold the paper and it should look as below.
Step 3:
Flip the square paper to the other side and fold it in half vertically and horizontally and then unfold.
Step 4:
Keep the diagonal creases outwards and fold the vertical and horizontal creases inwards.
Step 5:
Flatten the current pattern. This will form a triangle pattern and each side should have 2 triangle flaps.
Step 6:
Hold any one of the open corners of a triangle flap and align its diagonal edge with the middle crease of the base triangle pattern.
Step 7:
Similarly fold the other side (left-right).
Step 8:
Now, turn the pattern to the other side.
Step 9:
Notice the extra triangle tips on the top? Fold and align the 90 degree side with the bottom side or with the top open edge of the base triangle.
Step 10:
Similarly, fold the other tip.
Step 11:
Fold up the bottom corner of the base triangle by a cm or so.
Step 12:
Follow this technique to prepare the rest of the petals.
Step 13:
Take any 2 origami petal patterns and join them side by side by inserting the extra side of one petal under the petal part of the other one.
Step 14:
Push the patterns all the way, making sure there’s no gap when you lock them with each other.
Step 15:
Turn the patterns to the other side, keeping them joined.
Step 16:
Fold the extra tips inside; align and flatten them with the rest of the pattern. They should look at below.
Step 17:
Turn the pattern to the right side again.
Step 18:
Join the 3rd origami petals with the first 2 petals. Lock it with the adjacent petal like we locked the previous ones.
Step 19:
Join all 7 petals one by one and it will form a round flower-like pattern. Your sunflower origami easy will now look as below. We just need to make the center part.
Step 20:
You can apply glue on the overlapped parts of the petals to secure them. Cut out a piece of brown paper for the center of the origami sunflower.
Step 21:
Glue the brown paper on the center by under the origami pattern, on the wrong side.
Step 22:
Take a piece of green square paper (6 x 6 inches).
Step 23:
Fold the square paper in half, diagonally and then unfold.
Step 24:
Fold the paper diagonally in half on the other side.
Step 25:
Fold the diagonal sides of the current pattern along the middle crease.
Step 26:
Hold any one side of the top layers and fold it out by 45 degree or less.
Step 27:
Similarly, fold the other side.
Step 28:
Attach the origami flower pattern on the tip of the middle part of the green origami pattern.
What will you do with yours? I plan to stick mine on the fridge to brighten up the kitchen area. I also have an easy rose drawing on my kitchen wall and I am going full on with the flower theme!
