I am always thinking of great Autumn crafts for my preschool kids, and my latest favorite idea is this Fall Leaf Monster craft!
My 4 year old daughter made a Leaf ghost just before Halloween and I accidentally broke part of it off (bad Mommy I know) so I knew I had to come up with a similar but better craft for her to enjoy at home. We have stacks of Fall leaves around our house, plus we have a forest nearby so I knew my craft had to feature leaves!
One sunny afternoon the kids and I went to the forest and picked some leaves to paint and decorate! We tried to pick a variety, some small and some large.
We decided to recreate the leaf ghost and some other monsters. My little girl insisted she does not like scary things hence the pretty monsters! My 3 year old son is always pretending to be a monster so I thought we should create some leaf monsters of our own!
First time we did this Amelia did a ghost with some cotton wool as his hair to keep his head warm and I helped my 3 year old make a leaf happy Frankenstein.
If you like ghost crafts you will love my Kleenex Ghost, or you might want to try my Frankenstein Monster craft.
The second time around I made a very pretty orange leaf monster and my kids did their own thing. I think freestyle is best for pre-schoolers as they find it hard to follow instructions. Nonetheless my 4 year old did try to copy me and add eyes and a happy smile!
You can see all our cool Fall Leaf craft monsters in the video below. My tutorial just covers the orange leaf monster craft.
How To Do Fall Leaf Craft Monsters
How to make some pretty looking leaf monsters this Fall! These are perfect for Halloween or anytime during October and November! This is a freestyle craft, but you are welcome to recreate my orange Fall leaf monster, shown here! Go for a short walk and pick as many fallen leaves as you wish. Wash and dry the leaves off before painting and decorating them. Paint your leaf orange or bright red (it will look orange if you choose a yellow leaf). Add two googly eyes I added pom poms around the outside. I explained to my kids that this represented monster's coat. I added 4 colored gems for the nose I added several gems for the monster's smile I twisted a blue pipe cleaner around the stem to represent the monster's tail! Try and pick freshly fallen leaves. Older leaves crinkle at the ends and are more difficult to paint and decorate! We did this Fall craft for kids in late November and by then most of the leaves were past their best. The thing I love about this leaf craft for preschool is the fact that the kids come up with a different idea every time I do this with them! Oh how I love their imagination and creativity!
You could also use these as a bookmark or a Halloween decoration for your home.
