How to Make a Handprint Christmas Tree Craft

My handprint Christmas tree craft is perfect for little kids from preschool age to kindergarten and older! Use it as a keepsake or for the front of a Christmas card. 

Christmas is coming and if you are as excited as my kids to put up the Christmas tree this craft is for you!

We have a rule in our house that the tree does not go up until December 1st but my children keep heart-breaking me to put it up, so I decided this year to start my easy Christmas tree crafts much earlier!

This way they get their tree fix before I actually have to get around to putting the real thing up!

What craft supplies do I need to make a Handprint tree for Christmas

The good news is that this is one of those frugal activities that does not require lots of materials. 

• Colored craft papers
• Pencil – to trace the template
• Craft glue
• Sharpie or gel pen

How to make a Christmas tree with handprints

Step 1:

Select colored craft paper to trace the hand patterns and select different colored craft papers to cut out stars and small round shapes to decorate the tree. Trace and cut out 3 handprints from craft paper.

Step 2:

Take any 2 handprinted papers side by side using craft glue.

Step 3:

Glue the 3^rd handprinted pattern on the top middle part of the joined patterns.

Step 4:

Cut out a square shape from brown paper (trunk) and glue it on the bottom side of the handprinted tree craft.

Step 5:

Trace and cut out a star shape and round shapes from craft papers. You can keep the round shapes all the same size or you can make them various sizes.

Step 6:

Drop glues on the handprinted tree to mark the points where you’d like to add the colorful round cut-outs. This is a good idea as it means you can space them out thoroughly. Mum could add the glue and little kids could add the round shapes. 

Make this educational for preschool by asking the children to count the number of round shapes in each color!

Step 7:

Place the round cut-outs on the glue drop one by one.

Step 8:

Attach the star cut-out on the tip of the handprinted Christmas tree pattern. Maybe you want to try and draw an angel and attach it to the tree instead?

Why not make one with adult handprints?! You could make an entire family of Christmas trees. You could even use Mom and Dad handprints for the bottom part of the tree and child handprint for the top part! 

Perhaps you might stick it to some cardstock and send it as a Christmas card to some relatives.

Alternatively, you may wish to stick it on your fridge or dangle it from your Christmas tree!
