Let’s have some fun with this easy crab craft for kids and our crabby summer craft! We are going to turn a paper roll into your very own crab.
Summer is a great time to visit the beaches and for some areas of the world you will see crabs at the beach. Mostly they do not look as pretty as ours but they are still nice to see!
Crabs are essential in the sea as they help with cleaning.
We’ve created this crabby summer craft to bring the cut little creatures to the crafting table.
Once you have created one of these easy summer crafts for kids you can join us in many more summer crafts for kids.
The good thing about our crab is that he does not nip you, and he is not wet or slippery, so you can play with him as long as you want! The downside of this pretend play one is that you cannot not eat it is made out of paper roll!!
If you want I can also show you how to make a paper crab
Crabby Summer Craft – Paper Roll Crab Craft
Let’s turn a plain old paper roll into a cute under the sea character! Once we’ve done that we can continue the “under the sea” crafting and make an octopus mobile or a squid pencil holder. These are all great done as a learning theme for kids.
Time to Complete:
20-30 minutes, plus drying time
Age Range Recommendation:
4+ years old.
Craft Supplies:
- Paper roll
- Red paint
- Paint brush
- Scissors
- Googly eyes
- Black Marker
- Red construction paper
- Glue
Step #1:
Paint the paper roll with red paint. Set it aside and allow it to dry completely. You may want to add a few coats so it is evenly red – crabs are a nice bright red!
Step #2:
While our paper roll dries, grab a piece of red construction paper and cut out two arms with claws. To make sure they are the same size, fold the paper in half and cut one arm out.
Step #3:
Cut three or four strips on each side of the paper roll – these will be our legs. In between the sets of legs cut away the rest of the paper roll.
Step #4:
Bend the legs to each side.
Step #5:
Now, bend the center of each leg so our crab can stand up.
Step #6
Grab the arms you cut out. If you haven’t already, cut the two apart. Glue an arm onto each side of the paper roll.
Step #7
Add in some googly eyes and use a black marker to draw on a smile.
Feel free to make your crab one of a kind – add some eye brows, nose, or freckles! Why not make an entire family of them. You do not want your single crab to go lonely do you!
