Penguins are one of my favorite Artic animals and I know schools do lots of cool projects on them during January and February!
In Year 2 my daughter really enjoyed doing penguin drawing activities as well as arts and crafts on Emperor penguins! I think that drawing and crafting really brings a topic to life and aids learning!
Apparently according to Penguins International there are 18 species of penguins including African, Chinstrap, Fiordland, Royal, Emperor and Northern Rockhopper penguins.
Emperor penguin are the largest of all Penguin species. They can live up to 20 years and measure the same height as my 6-year-old (120cms).
Speaking of crafts why not try my moving eye penguin craft with paper plate or my cute penguin bookmark
If your kids enjoy making penguins from craft materials chances are they will want to learn how to draw a baby penguin also.

My Easy Penguin Drawing for Kids Tutorial – How to Draw a Realistic Penguin
If you can read and hold a pencil you can draw this cute penguin! Do not be overwhelmed when you see the completed image.
This little guy starts off as a circle! The key is to go one step at a time and rub out something that does not look quite right. Little kids can do this too. They might want to follow the picture instructions as opposed to the written ones.
How about you do it with your child and they can copy what you draw; a real bonding experience as you draw realistic penguins together.
Many people actually look for pinguin drawing easy when they are searching for one of these tutorials! I think they are getting mixed up with Pingu (the name of a famous penguin) and Penguin and they combine the two to get a wrong spelling.
Step 1:
Draw a circle. The size of this will determine the size of the penguin you draw. Why not do a larger circle for Daddy penguin and a smaller one for baby penguin! You could also draw a small circle for Little penguins and a larger one for Emperor penguins as they are the biggest of them all.
Step 2:
Then, draw an oval shape under the circle. It will be overlapping as shown below!
Step 3:
Erase the overlapped area between the oval and the circle. This is where you need a decent eraser, and this is another reason why I do not go heavy handed with my pencil as it makes it harder to rub out!
Draw two round-edged triangles on the two sides of the oval shape as the penguin’s flippers.
Step 4:
Draw three curved lines on the bottom and draw two lines on two sides of the curved lines joining with the bottom part of the shape. Similarly, draw the penguin’s other feet.
You can see what I mean by looking at the picture below.
Step 5:
Draw the penguin’s face outline. We will be adding facial features next in separate stages.
Step 6:
Draw the penguin’s curvy rhombus-shaped bill.
Step 7:
Draw the penguin’s eye sockets.
Step 8:
Draw the two eyeballs using a black pen. I draw two black circles and color them in, leaving a very small circle in the middle to represent the pupil of the eye.
Step 9:
Draw some hair on the top of the head for details. Of course, you can change the penguin’s hairstyle if you wish! You may even wish to draw a penguin wearing a hat. Lots of penguin pictures show them wearing bobble hats!
In this instance I just went for a short tuff of hair as shown!
Step 10:
Then, draw the penguin’s oval-shaped belly.
Step 11:
Color the penguin’s body, head, and flippers black color. This coloring stage is suitable for the youngest of kids!
Step 12:
Color the bill using orange.
Step 13:
Color the feet with a yellow shade.
Step 14:
And color the face and belly with an off-white color.
What else would you like to add to this penguin picture? Maybe you would like a family of penguins?
You could draw the penguin wearing a scarf and woolly hat?!
This simple penguin drawing represents a Little Penguin for sure! One thing I know he is cute and easy to recreate.
What to do with your completed penguin drawing easy
Initially I feel very happy after completing a new drawing, and I know my children do too. Sometimes they may not be totally content with their creation, and they may try again in a few days times. I always say, practise makes perfect!
You can use this easy penguin drawing for a poster or why not stick it onto some cardstock and use it for a Christmas card!
Why not use it as a part of a larger picture. Add an igloo or even better some more penguins! Encourage young children to write a few sentences about their cute penguin drawing.
This penguin illustration can also be used for crafting or for adding to almost you wish, i.e t-shirts, mugs, planners etc.
Let me know what you plan to do with yours?!
