If you love making puppets with your kids, this paper bag gnome will be right up your street. My how to make a gnome paper bag puppet craft provides a step-by-step guide with images to help you recreate your own gnome or gonk!
Gnomes are everywhere and their popularity has gone through the roof recently. My children love admiring gnome statues every time we go to our local garden centre.
My daughter, in particular always comments on my cute gnome crafts. We made a Halloween gnome recently and my Fall gnome craft is adorable
We love making crafts that we can use for story telling, my Three Little Pigs craft and Little Muffett craft provided great opportunities for my children to recite the story and the nursery rhyme. Puppets are one such craft idea that can be used to tell a story; they really incite a kid’s brain.

How to make a Gnome Puppet from a Paper Bag
My printable Gnome paper bag puppet craft instructions can be found at the bottom of this post. This paper bag gnome craft step by step can be completed by kids of any age.
Younger children will need their parent’s help!
Step 1:
Select different colored craft papers for the gnome puppet. The template includes the following patterns- head, hat, hat border, beard, moustache, nose, gloves (or hands), and sleeves. Trace the template patterns on the selected craft papers and cut out the traced pattern.
You can select any color you wish for the different parts. My selections can be seen below.
Step 2:
Attach the hat border along the bottom side of the hat cut-out. Glue a few layers of cardstock papers on the backside of the nose cut-out; this will give the nose a 3d look.
Step 3:
Attach the beard cut-out on the bottom side of the head cut-out.
Step 4:
Attach the nose and the moustache cut-outs on the head cut-out, slightly above the beard pattern.
Step 5:
Attach the hat pattern on the top side of the head pattern.
Step 6:
Select a paper bag or craft your own customized paper bag using brown paper or craft paper. Prepare a piece of paper (the gnome’s clothes) to cover a side of the paper bag.
Step 7:
Attach the hand cut-outs to the sleeves. Attach the shoe cut-outs on the bottom side of the clothes cut-out and attach the sleeve patterns on both sides of it. Your paper bag gnome should look as below.
Step 8:
Attach the prepared body pattern of the gnome on either side of the paper bag. Keep in mind that the closed end of the paper bag will be the top side of the paper bag gnome puppet. Use a sharpie to draw the face of the papercraft gnome figure.
Step 9:
Flatten the bottom part of the paper bag with the front side and attach the head pattern on the bottom side of the bag to complete the puppet craft.
Will you give these one of the fabulous gnome names out there?! How about Gnorm the gnome? If you make more than one you may want to name them. You could use them for your own play!
If you love everything gnome, why not try some of my other ideas. You can make a Gnome Christmas ornament or why not send Birthday greetings with my DIY Gnome Birthday card craft
