Kids might not know the phrase ‘ A pair of love birds’ but it is commonly used all year long with regards to couples who display their affection for one another. Of course the term does come from an actual bird! They are little birds with short tails that look like parrots and show lots of affection towards one another.
How to Make a Love Bird Pop Up Card for Valentine Day
Like most of my paper crafts you only need a small number of different materials, most of which you already have!
You will also need two templates one for the pop up socket and one for the actual love birds
- Colored craft papers
- Cardstock paper
- A pair of scissors
- Pencil – to trace the template
- Craft glue
- Sharpie or gel pen
Love Bird Valentine Pop up Card Step by Step Instructions
Step 1:
Select colored craft papers for the bird and the heart patterns and select a cardstock paper to make the card and the pop sockets. The template includes patterns for 2 birds and a heart. Trace the template patterns on the selected craft papers and cut out the traced pattern.
Step 2:
Take any one of the bird patterns and attach the tail feather cut-out on the backside of the bird base.
Step 3:
Attach the wing cut-out on the body base.
Step 4:
Attach the beak and the leg cut-outs.
Step 5:
Use sharpies to add outlines to wing and tail feather pattern. Draw the eye to complete the bird craft. Similarly, craft the other bird pattern.
Your love birds are not complete and are ready to be add to your Valentine’s Day pop up card as soon as it is prepared!
Step 6:
Prepare a card from an A4 size sheet. Prepare the pop socket strips from cardstock paper as well. Use the template to help.
Step 7:
Fold the pop socket strips along the dashed lines and apply glue along the thin part.
Step 8:
Attach the large pop socket piece in the middle of the card’s inner surface. The pop sockets should be aligned to 90 degrees angel with the card’s inner surface.
Step 9:
Attach the thin sockets on both sides of the large one.
Step 10:
Attach the papercraft birds on the thin pop sockets, with both birds facing each other. Your pop up bird card is starting to take shape.
Step 11:
Attach the heart pattern between the birds, on the large pop socket. Close the card to check if the heart and bird patterns flatten neatly.
