How cute is my Origami Leprechaun craft for kids? In this free tutorial I show you how to make this using my easy step by step instructions!
Leprechaun Origami that Kids Can Make
Two things I love about March are brighter evenings and leprechaun crafts!! They seem to bring out so much excitement, happiness and creativity in my kids too!
I think they are convinced we will find a real life leprechaun some day if we keep making craft ones!
If you follow my site you will know that I just adore Origami so it will come as no surprise that after the popularity of my shamrock origami I just had to try and fold paper to make a leprechaun!
Granted this one is more complicated than they shamrock one but my easy step by step origami tutorial is suitable for kids as well as adults.

Origami Leprechaun Instructions
Step 1:
Prepare a piece of square paper (15 cm x 15 cm) that is colored green on one side and white on
the other side.
Step 2:
Turn the paper and bring the white side to the top.
Step 3:
Fold the square paper in half, diagonally.
Step 4:
Unfold the diagonal fold to get a diagonal crease on the square paper.
Step 5:
Hold any one side of the current paper and fold it in. Align the side with the diagonal crease and
make a fine fold.
Step 6:
Similarly, fold in and align the adjacent side along the diagonal half crease.
Step 7:
Hold the narrow corner and fold it to the opposite side, joining with the wide corner.
Step 8:
Turn the current pattern to the other side
Step 9:
Hold the wide-open corner and fold it down about 1 cm away from the opposite side. The white,
triangle part will be used to form the leprechaun’s beard and face.
Step 10:
Make a small mountain fold on the open corner of the triangle part.
Step 11:
Make a thin fold along the closed side of the triangle part; this will be the bottom side of the
leprechaun’s hat.
Step 12:
Turn the current pattern to the other side.
Step 13:
Fold in the top, narrow corner by 2 cm.
Step 14:
Fold the left side of the current pattern’s bottom layer and align it with the top layer’s left edge.
Step 15:
Similarly, fold and align the right side with the right edge.
Step 16:
Turn the current pattern to the other side.
Step 17:
Fold in the bottom-right corner and overlap the beard (white, triangle part) slightly on the right
side.
Step 18:
Similarly, fold the left-bottom corner. These are the arms of the origami leprechaun.
Step 19:
Use a pen and sharpies to draw the face and fill the beard part of the origami leprechaun on the
white part.
Step 20:
Trace and cut out a round shape from golden craft paper or glitter paper. Place the coin cutout under the arms of the origami leprechaun.
What will you do with your cute paper leprechauns? Maybe you might use them as mantelpiece decor? You could attach a popsicle stick and use them as puppets or gift them to friends as a lucky charm!
