Handprint Parrot Craft
Parrots are one of the most colorful birds in the whole world. They make great pets due to their color, intelligence and the sounds they make!!
If you are unlucky enough to have a pet parrot you can make your own from colored construction paper and handprints! Sure enough this one will not talk and repeat what you say, but at least it will not fly off!
This is one of my favorite kids handprint crafts although adults can enjoy this activity also!
How to Make a Parrot From Handprints
This is an easy animal preschool craft with only 8 steps and a few materials required. Many of these craft materials will already be in your craft drawer.
Materials
- Colored craft papers
- Pencil – to trace the template
- Craft glue
- Sharpie or gel pen
- A pair of scissors
Parrot Body Template
You will also need a parrot craft template, although you can trace your own handprints if you wish (this would take more time so you may not want to if you want a quick craft).
Step 1:
Select as many colored craft papers you have, this is going to be a colorful craft.
The template includes the parrot’s body base, beak, eye base and handprinted feathers.
Trace and cut out the patterns from the selected craft papers.
You can choose what colors of craft paper you wish
Step 2:
Glue the beak cut-out to the front side of the head part.
Step 3:
Glue the eye cut-out on the head part and then use a sharpie to draw the beak details.
Step 4:
Take any 3 handprint feather cut-outs and join them together like a chain, keeping the fingers facing downwards. This pattern will be the tail feathers of the papercraft parrot.
Step 5:
Glue the handprint feather chain to the tail part of the body base.
Step 6:
Now, glue a different colored handprint feather cut-out near the tail feather pattern.
Step 7:
Glue another cut-out near the previous one. Try to cover bottom half of the base with the handprint feather cut-outs as shown.
Step 8:
Finally, glue the last handprint feather cut-out for the wing to complete the papercraft parrot.
What will you do with yours? You could stick a popsicle stick on the back and turn these into cute parrot puppets for story telling!
You could stick them onto the front of some cardstock and use them for a Happy Birthday card!
Or simple stick them in your scrap book as a memory of one of your favorite crafts!
Simply use them as house decor by sticking them onto your wall, fridge or another surface.
